Foster Care and Special Education

Dr. Sara Paul from OSPI will join us on January 22. With more than 31 years of experience in the field of Special Education, Dr. Paul brings deep expertise and a strong commitment to advocacy on behalf of the youth we serve. She will provide a structure for IEP Meetings and the intersection of supports within special education and foster care. Sara also will share her perspective and approach related to IDEA and the Education Decision Maker (EDM) framework.

Best Interest Determination Meetings Training

Best Interest Determinations Meetings are required when a foster care student has a home placement change. These meetings are to determine the best interest of whether the student should stay in the school of origin or move to another school based on placement. This training will be presented by the OSPI Foster Care team and there will be time for problem-solving and questions from attendees.

Transportation for Foster Care Students

A one-hour Q&A session with Regional Transportation Directors focused on transportation services and supports for students in foster care. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of available resources.

Amara Program Overview

Join the OSPI Foster Care Team as we host community partner Amara. Amara serves the evolving needs of children, youth, and families impacted by the child welfare system. Centering equity, Amara advocates for system change and bridge gaps by providing compassionate wrap-around resources, while helping to reduce trauma and bring healing. Their work helps?maintain family and community connections while preventing child welfare involvement when possible.
